The fact that you’re seeing it populated as a camera within ProPresenter makes me more wary of maybe you’re just not getting video output from camera to UltraStudio but who knows. It is not needed for what you’re trying to do IIRC Desktop video is in order for you to capture/encode video you want to edit on your computer. #Blackmagic ultrastudio mini recorder vlc installIn my experience, the UltraStudio mini has been mostly plug and play with Macs and I’ve never had to even install drivers for it to show up as an external camera in softwares such as wirecast or ProPresenter. Has anyone had experience with this, or give me any other troubleshooting steps to try?Ĭouple things that come to my mind that might be helpful in troubleshooting.įirst, what camera are you using and are you positive you have it outputting via its SDI or HDMI output? I would test to verify by testing from the camera to a display and make sure you’re getting output from the camera I don't get anything on my output preview in ProPresenter. I select the UltraStudio Mini Recorder and set the mode to 1080p30. Then I go over to ProPresenter 6, and try to enable it there. Should there be anything in the Output Format column? ![]() It says it's giving me 1080p30, which is fine. I've allowed BlackMagic to operate in my privacy and security settings. I've downloaded the latest versions of Desktop Video and converter drivers from BlackMagic's support page (which is really weird to navigate by the way). That outputs Thunderbolt 2, which I convert to Thunderbolt 3 via an adapter bought recently from Apple. ![]() I'm trying to use the Live Video feature in ProPresenter 6 (on an IMac) with a camera that goes HDMI out of it into a BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder. Inspired by our brother subreddit: audioengineering Finally, you can start capturing in OBS, turn on the Virtual Cam output, and then access the video in Unity. To have the OBS Virtual Cam available as a webcam in Unity, you need to install this registry entry. I used OBS Virtual Cam to take the output of OBS and make it a pretend webcam. I ended up using OBS studio as an intermediary, as it has built-in support for Blackmagic devices. I was able to use it via the DirectShow interface in VLC, so that part is working, but it wouldn’t work in Unity. ![]() #Blackmagic ultrastudio mini recorder vlc how toAfter playing with the drivers and the configuration, I never could figure out how to use the BMD UltraStudio Mini directly. The next problem I ran into is that it only shows a black screen in Unity. You’ll need Blackmagic’s Desktop Video package to switch between HDMI and SDI input, and you can use their capture tool for checking that it works. #Blackmagic ultrastudio mini recorder vlc windowsSo now you can connect the Mini Recorder to your Windows PC. Note - although Apple has an adapter that is $50 and bi-directional, it doesn’t seem to work on Windows. I purchased the Cable Matters one since it was less expensive. The only ones that seem to work with Windows PCs are this Cable Matters adapter for about $55 and this Startech adapter for $75. If you have a Thunderbolt 3 computer, you’ll need a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. If your computer has a Thunderbolt 2 port, then all you need is a Thunderbolt 2 cable for about $30 and you’re all set. This is available new for $145, but you can often find it in “Like new” condition on eBay for about $100. If your laptop/computer has a Thunderbolt port though, there’s a less expensive solution.īlackmagic has the UltraStudio Mini Recorder, with both HDMI and SDI inputs to a Thunderbolt 2 interface. If you don’t require both inputs, there are a couple more options available but they all cost more. There are non-branded devices on Amazon that have HDMI and SDI input with a USB 3 connection for about $210. For a recent project, I wanted to get HDMI and SDI input into Unity in the least expensive way possible.
